PTFE rope, also known as Teflon rope, is a sealing material used for gaskets and packing in a variety of applications:

  • Properties

PTFE rope is a soft, marshmallow-like cord that can compress into a wide, thin ribbon under pressure. It's resistant to chemicals, electricity, and heat, and has a low coefficient of friction. PTFE rope is also durable, with a long life and low wear and tear.

  • Uses

PTFE rope is used as a gasket on flanged connections and pressure vessels, and as packing for valves and similar gland applications. It's suitable for handling chemicals, acids, solvents, dyes, and more.

  • Types

There are different types of PTFE rope, including:
    • PTFE gland rope: Made from graphite-filled expanded PTFE yarn, this rope has high thermal conductivity and low friction.
    • Pure PTFE packing rope: Made from 100% pure PTFE yarn, this rope is chemically inert and can withstand temperatures up to 270°C.
    • Expanded PTFE rope: Made from puffed PTFE material, this rope is strong, tough, and porous. It's easy to cut and install, and has a long service life.

PTFE is the shortened name of polytetrafluoroethylene, while Teflon is the trade name for the same polymer.
